Europe's largest scooter maker Piaggio has introduced its iconic Vespa 946 to Viet Nam, targeting the country's wealthiest customers.

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Europe's largest scooter maker Piaggio has introduced its iconic Vespa 946 to Viet Nam, targeting the country's wealthiest customers.

Retailing at VND 340 million (US$15,000), the Italian-made bike is the most expensive scooter in Viet Nam and is available by order only.

Piaggio Viet Nam said that the 946 is a limited model and its dealers will only receive orders from buyers until the end of August this year.

Inspired from the World War-2 era Vespa MP6 prototype, the name of the new model comes from the date the company started making scooters - 1946.

The bike is powered by a 125cc four-stroke single cylinder engine which generates 11.7 horse power at 8,250 rpm and has a body made of sheet steel with aluminium elements.

The scooter also come with a factory fitted ABS system and ASR traction control system.

Vespa represents a major asset to Piaggio's financial health. The division sold 165,000 scooters in 2012 in a difficult year for the global economy. — VNS
