HA NOI (Biz Hub) — As many as 95 per cent of Vietnamese students want to learn more about coding and 83 per cent hope it will be included in their schools' curriculum.

This was revealed in the latest report on the Asia Pacific region released by Microsoft Inc. on March 20.

The report said most students recognised the value of learning programming and its job potential. They had received great support from their schools and parents for learning coding: 66 per cent had gotten opportunities to learn coding at school, and 63 per cent said their parents considered learning coding as crucial for their future.

Referring to the advantages of programming, 62 per cent said coding had helped them think more logically and 52 per cent agreed that it made them understand the modern digital world better.

The survey showed that 90 per cent of male students and 85 per cent of females thought that coding was important for their future careers. It also indicated that local undergraduates had good awareness about technology and over 91 per cent of students learning social sciences and arts showed an interest in learning programming.

The survey was carried out in February and drew participation from more than 1,800 students under 24 years in eight countries in the Asia-Pacific, including Viet Nam, and questioned them on their desire to learn coding.

It was part of Microsoft's "We Speak Code" programme that encourages users to attempt coding through a series of activities and interactive courses. — VNS
