HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — People can book a taxi through the Malaysian mobile application GrabTaxi to travel to HCM City's Military 7 stadium to attend the K-Pop music festival on March 22.

Those who hire a Mai Linh taxi will be refunded a maximum of VND200,000, or US$9.5, when they submit their bills at a stall in the stadium.

The mobile app, an award-winning idea at the Harvard Business School's 2011 Business Plan Contest, can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store to smart phones and tablets with the iOS and Android operating systems.

GrabTaxi representative Nguyen Tuan Anh told the Thoi Bao Ngan Hang newspaper that the company plans to conquer the Vietnamese market by signing contracts with local taxi companies after their success in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

GrabTaxi allows passengers to catch a taxi at the nearest convenient area, easily and safely. The application identifies the user's location via the global positioning system and displays the taxi numbers which are within a 5-kilometre radius. The passengers can select their destinations and send booking requests. The taxi drivers will respond and the one nearest to the customers' locations will pick them up. — VNS
