HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — The City's Department of Information and Communications on August 26 entered into an agreement with Microsoft Corporation to further develop e-government and build a smart city here.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties, the City Government and Microsoft will cooperate in developing IT infrastructure for a smart city and for cloud computing. The global company will also support the City in carrying out management applications in various fields such as society and economics, electronics and information technology (IT).

Vu Minh Tri, Microsoft Vietnam General Director, said his company was committed to helping the City in its quest to succeed in building a smart city and in bringing about great changes in local governance and in the lives of city dwellers.

HCM City has the largest population density among all cities in Viet Nam. In the process of its urbanisation, the city has encountered a number of enormous challenges resulting from the rapid growth of its population, including increasing pressure on its infrastructure and its capability to provide essential services such as transportation, health care and education. — VNS
