Majority of Vietnamese customers want an iPhone: survey

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The US-based Apple's iPhones are the most anticipated gadgets in Viet Nam, according to a recent survey carried out by the Japanese W&S market research company's website vinaresearch.net.

Fifty-one per cent of the 4,426 people surveyed expect to own an iPhone, topping the list. In second and third place, only 18.2 per cent and 8.1 per cent of the people respectively wish to own the gadgets of South Korea's Samsung and Japan's Sony. The gadgets of South Korea's LG and Taiwan's ASUS are the least awaited, with only 2.3 per cent and 3.1 per cent of the people waiting to buy them.

Google's Android remains the most popular operating system, wanted by 65.3 per cent of the users. Apple's iOS and Nokia's Windows Phone are wanted by 16.3 per cent and 13.9 per cent of the users respectively.

Among the most popular brands of smartphones, Samsung's devices lead with 27.9 per cent, followed by Nokia with 17.1 per cent and Apple's iPhone with 16.3 per cent). Samsung Galaxy S3, Nokia Lumia 520 and iPhone 4S are the most popular models of each of the three above-mentioned brands.

More than 40 per cent of the surveyed people had bought their latest smartphones at the giant phone retailer The Gioi Di Dong's (Mobile World) store, while the Viettel store was the choice of the least number of customers at 4.8 per cent.

While selecting a smartphone, the respondents said that the battery life is the biggest factor, and then the screen size, the core processing speed and the operating system and form.

During the past one year, 28.8 per cent of the surveyed people had not changed their smartphones. However, more than 39 per cent changed their phones once, 26 per cent changed them twice and 4.5 per cent changed their phones thrice. Notably, 0.6 per cent changed their phones more than four times in the past year.

Asked about the reasons for buying new smartphones, more than half of them said that they wanted to experience new varieties of smartphones, and 46.4 per cent said they wanted to discover new technologies. More than 31 per cent of the people said that they bought new smartphones to replace their old and damaged phones, while 27 per cent said that they were bored with their old phones.

The survey also studied people's reaction to the new iPhones, namely iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Nearly 58 per cent of the people said that they were "impressed" and 17 per cent agreed that they were "very impressed" by iPhone 6. Only 4.3 per cent and 2.2 per cent said that they were "not impressed" and "not very impressed" respectively.

On the other hand, 26 per cent and nearly half of the respondents were "very impressed" and "impressed" respectively by iPhone 6 Plus. Meanwhile, 4.8 per cent said they were "not impressed" and 1.5 per cent were "not very impressed" by iPhone 6 Plus. — VNS
