A shipment of two giant ship-to-shore cranes has been delivered to Gemalink International Port in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

Doosan Heavy Industries Viet Nam (Doosan Vina) said in a statement that the crane shipment was the sixth and last of a series of a super-heavy cranes contract with Gemadept-CMA CGM under the Gemalink project.

The super-heavy cranes with booms of up to 70 metres can handle 65-tonne cargo containers from the largest mother vessels.

“With this design, our cranes can reach up to 70m into the sea and can lift two 20-foot containers at the same time or bulk cargo and project cargo of 65 tonnes and 85 tonnes from large mother vessels up to 200,000 DWT,” said Yoon Young Sang, leader of the erection crane department.

Five shipments of the contracted cranes were handed over to Gemalink International Port in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai deep-water port area between July and November.

According to Gemadept-CMA CGM, the six cranes would ensure a handling capacity of more than 1.5 million TEU per year during the first phase operation of the port.

Doosan Vina said 89 of its cranes were operating at ports in Singapore, India, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, and in major ports in Viet Nam. — VNS
