DONG NAI (Biz Hub) — An international voluntary group from the US-based IBM Corporation will assist the Dong Nai Provincial Departments of Health and Science and Technology from May 12 to June 7.

During the four-week programme of the IBM Corporate Service Corps, 12 experts from eight countries will help the departments to improve their management in sections such as human resources and project management skills.

At the Department of Health, the group will support two projects, consisting of community health improvement and information technology (IT) education. The project aims to improve the skills and abilities of the officers in managing and boosting community health programmes, improve communication activities as well as upgrade the quality of community health programmes through IT application.

At the Department of Science and Technology, the IBM experts will assist in two projects on building information security solutions and educating about project management and innovative methods. Its objective is to improve the information security systems of the agency and firms which receive its support.

IBM has invested US$250,000 in projects in the Dong Nai province.

The corporation will partner with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to hold a conference on applying IT in business management. Experts will share their experiences on infrastructure and on acquiring the necessary skills for SMEs in the Dong Nai Province through IT application.

"Dong Nai is one of places where IBM has expanded its activities based on assessments of their socio-economic development potential and the openness of organisations and enterprises," Pham Ngoc Van Giang, director of IBM's social responsibility programmes, said. "Dong Nai was assessed as having many advantages in the fields of health, science and technology. By cooperating with two departments, IBM hopes to bring change in the way they think and work."

IBM Corporate Service Corps is part of the social responsibility programmes initiated in 2008. It aims to contribute experience and the knowledge of IBM's excellent exports to solve socio-economic issues in the emerging markets, and build a next generation of leadership.

Between 2008 and 2013, there were 10 voluntary groups from IBM helping organisations and enterprises in Vietnamese cities, including Da Nang, Hai Phong and Hue, to tackle challenges such as building a good business plan and managing human resources effectively. — VNS
