The La Residence Hotel & Spa in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue has a new brand name after a confidential acquisition by the Azerai Group owned by veteran Indonesian hotelier Adrian Zecha.

La Residence is now called Azerai La Residence Hue, but details of the acquisition have not been revealed. The 122-room facility will remain in its old structure. Azerai is planning to update the facility to make it fit the Azerai style of affordable luxury.

Azerai expected the facility to remain the top choice for hotel accommodation in Hue, the former royal capital city in the central region of Viet Nam.

Previously, the hotel was managed by Accor Hotels. It changed ownership once in 2017 and Azerai took charge of the hotel this year.

Originally, the facility was a colonial mansion built by the French in 1930. The facility is one of the iconic sites along the famed Huong (Perfume) River of Hue thanks to its architectural beauty.

The hotel was voted one of the 20 best hotels in Asia by readers of Conde Nast Traveller Magazine. — VNS
