Heineken Vietnam, in collaboration with the People’s Committee of southern Tien Giang Province, inaugurated a water pipeline system in Tan Xuan and Tan Thanh villages of Tien Giang Province, on Wednesday.

With a fund of VND1 billion (US$43,500) from Heineken Vietnam, the system is now ready to supply clean water to 195 households in the Tan Phu Commune after six months of construction.

“This is a very important project as it meets the urgent need of clean water and improved living condition of our people. It will help us to overcome climate-change challenges, which have negatively influenced locals’ lives and will contribute to the local social economic development,” Pham Anh Tuan, vice chairman of Tien Giang Province People’s Committee, said at the inauguration ceremony.

“Water and education are two key areas of our communities’ development under the framework of our sustainability agenda in Viet Nam. The water pipeline system will benefit residents in one of the areas most affected by climate change,” said Corporate Affairs Director of Heineken Vietnam, Matt Wilson.

Tan Phu Commune is one of the province’s most severely affected areas during the dry season, where the old water supply system meets just approximately 30 per cent of the daily need of the locals. This project will help the province to increase clean water access for residents, who are facing shortage due to droughts and saltwater intrusion, especially those living in the eastern coastal areas of the province.

The water supply station is one of the five projects sponsored by Heineken Vietnam to mark its 25th anniversary in Viet Nam. With a total fund of VND10 billion, the five stations are under the framework of Heineken Vietnam’s “1 minute less for million smiles” programme, which aims to raise public awareness on saving and protecting the water resource as well as providing access to clean water for the community at risk. — VNS
