GrabMart, a new service from Grab that delivers goods from supermarkets and other retailers to customers, grew by 91 per cent within just a week after its launch in late March, the company said.

GrabMart was launched in HCM City on March 23 and began to quickly cater to the growing demand for food and other essential goods during the Covid-19 outbreak when people were wary about going out in public.

It was expanded to Ha Noi two weeks later.

Customers can order goods from supermarkets and convenience stores online, and Grab drivers pick them up and deliver to their doorstep.

GrabMart has tied up with BigC, Co-op Xtra, Co-op Food, Farmers’ Market, Annam Gourmet, Cheers, Dalat Hasfarm, Bep Moc, Cho Pho fruit shop, Coca-Cola, and Meat World.

GrabFood is now available in 18 provinces and cities.

The company said: “As people stay indoors, food and parcel delivery partners now play a critical role in ensuring that people can continue to access food and daily essentials conveniently. With transport being limited, we are helping our two-wheel drivers to be able to continue earning an income through deliveries.”

In a report titled “A look at how daily patterns have changed for Vietnamese living in a pandemic” it also released yesterday, the company announced an increase in cashless payment.

“According to internal data shared by Moca, our strategic partner, while Covid-19 has dealt a blow to the economy, many industries and daily life, one positive outcome has been the acceleration towards digital payments. Due to social distancing, many have turned to cashless options.”

Cashless transactions account for 43 per cent on the Grab platform.

“Significantly, cashless payments for GrabMart orders is 70 per cent.

“It is encouraging to see how generous Vietnamese can be, especially in a time of crisis. The number of orders/trips that were tipped in April 2020 grew by 23 per cent compared to pre-Covid.”

The company itself has delivered 60,000 free masks and 45,000 GrabCare kits, donated 100,000 masks to the Ministry of Health and pledged a VND70 billion relief package to support partners and communities.

It also donated 15,000 free meals in HCM City and Hanoi in partnership with the Hope Foundation. — VNS
