First Solar, a global manufacturer of thin-film modules, has said it will increase the total number of employees in Viet Nam to over 950 after recently announcing plans to open its second factory in the country in the Dong Nam Industrial Park in HCM City.

The personnel to be recruited include machine operators, quality control engineers, shift managers, IT staff and all kinds of administrative and support staff.

A Career Day was organised late last week to look for competent candidates.

“The company is looking forward to gearing up and teaming up for 2018,” Chan See Chong, its managing director, said.

“With the production of our new Series 6 product set to kick off later in the year, we are looking for new associates to join our skilled workforce ... and to understand our company culture.

“We are committed to investing in the local economy in Viet Nam and I want to thank the community and industry for their continuous support to ensure the success of our manufacturing facility. As part of that commitment, we look forward to offering people in Viet Nam the chance to kick start or continue their careers with us.”

The company will inject an additional US$360 million to build the 1.2 gigawatt high-tech solar power plant, bringing its total investment to $830 million.

Together the two plants will produce 2.4GW of Series 6 modules annually.

Preliminary production is expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year. — VNS
