The Authority of Information Security under the Ministry of Information and Communications reported a total of 1,056 cyber attacks on information systems of Viet Nam in the first four months of this year.

Specifically, there were 553 phishing attempts, 280 acts of defacing, and 223 malware attacks, down 51.4 per cent over the same period last year.

There were 203 attacks on information systems in Viet Nam last month, including 43 phishing, 89 interface and 71 malware attacks.

The number of attacks has decreased by 28 per cent compared to March and by 68.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The Authority of Information Security said many agencies, organisations and users have been equipped with standard information security solutions.

In addition, laws and regulations are more complete, increasing deterrence to high-tech criminals. The compliance of large internet organisations in the world with Vietnamese law is also better.

In the context of increasing cyber attacks both in size and complexity, these positive results have continued to affirm the efforts of State management agencies and cyber security enterprises in Viet Nam in ensuring network safety.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ranked Viet Nam in the group of countries and territories with high commitment on cyber security last year at 50th place among 175 countries and territories, jumping 50 places compared to 2017. — VNS
