HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The southern city of Can Tho recently installed a free public Internet wi-fi service in the Ninh Kieu quay as part of an image-building exercise and to attract more tourists.
The quay, a commercial and tourist spot in the city, has five sets of wi-fi equipment installed with a total investment of over VND$1 billion (over US$47,600). The wi-fi range is 150 meters, and can serve 250 users for each mobile device.
The wi-fi system, sponsored by the city's Department of Information and Communications, was installed by the Saigon Postel Corporation in late December 2014.
Since the beginning of January until now, about 4,000 persons access the wi-fi daily. Can Tho is expected to install more wi-fi spots in the Luu Huu Phuoc Park, and other places and streets located in the centre of the city.
Can Tho is the seventh city in the country to provide free public wi-fi, after northern and central tourist destinations, such as Tam Dao town, Hoi An and Hue cities. — VNS
