The Ministry of Transport (MoT) will grant a licence for Malaysia budget airline AirAsia to fly between Kuala Lumpur and Lien Khuong Airport in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong.
Flying with A320 aircraft, the route will operate for five months between October 27, 2019 to March 27, 2020, said MoT’s representative.
Although details of flight prices have not been confirmed, a one-way ticket from Ha Noi to Kuala Lumper costs around US$85.
Currently, Lien Khuong Airport operates six domestic routes from Ha Noi, Da Nang, Hue, Hai Phong, Vinh and HCM City and 2 regular international routes from Bangkok (Thailand) and Wuhan (China) together with some charter routes from Singapore and South Korea with total productivity of 32 flights per day.
In Viet Nam, AirAsia operates 16 direct flights connecting Ha Noi, HCM City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Can Tho with six destinations in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
Earlier this year, Vietnamese media reported the establishment of a low-cost airline between AirAsia abd Thien Minh Group.
However, AirAsia then issued a notice about the ending this cooperation and has not yet found a partner to enter Viet Nam's aviation market while Thien Minh Group has established a new aviation company. — VNS
