HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Asia-America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable will be under maintenance and repair from June 7 and that can slow down the Internet connectivity between Viet Nam and other countries.
Director of VNPT International Lam Quoc Cuong told the local media that the cable's management unit will carry out maintenance and repair works at places where transmissions are not stable. It is expected to last 10 days and can impact the Internet connections supported through the cable.
Although the 20,000-km AAG is one of four submarine cables in Viet Nam, it is mostly used by local internet service providers. However, since coming into operation in 2009, it has experienced many breakdowns, affecting the performance of Internet services.
Earlier, at 4.30pm on May 26, the cable was found cut some 38km from Vung Tau City's coast. It was the third time the cable broke in Viet Nam since the beginning of this year. — VNS
