VAMA forecasts accelerating auto sales

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Automobile industry could reach 109,000 units this year compared with the original forecast of 100,000 units, said the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturer's Association (VAMA) in a recent report.

VAMA said the industry is currently on the trend of recovery as domestic auto sale in August reached more than 7,900 units, up by 12 per cent over the same period last year.

This is the fifth consecutive month in the year the industry volume has been higher than same period. However, the figure was still 16 per cent lower than July this year, of which, 3,094 units were cars and more than 4,800 units were trucks.

It's reported that domestically assembled autos accounted for more than 6,520 units, a 15 per cent decrease from July. The number of imported cars, including Audi, BMW and Volkswagen, was 1,378, down by 18 per cent compared with last month.

Of the VAMA members, Japan's Toyota again continued the lead with a sale of 2,486 units. It's followed by Truong Hai Automobile Corporation (Thaco) with 1,690 units and famous brand names such as Kia and Mazda with Ford in third due to strength in pick-up trucks such as the Ford Ranger and Ford Transit. — VNS
