QUANG NAM (Biz Hub) — The Truong Hai Automobile Company (Thaco) lead vehicle sales in Viet Nam, with more than 42,000 cars sold in 2014.

Thaco claimed 32 per cent of the market share of the Viet Nam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), the company told Biz Hub.

It added that the sales figures resulted from stable growth and attractive sales of 20,479 units of the Kia, Mazda and Peugeot models last year.

Kia was the top favourite with 11,200 units sold in 2014, a 26 per cent year-on-year increase, while Mazda models posted 100 per cent growth with the sale of 4,096 units.

Trucks, buses and special-use vehicles also posted large sales, with 21,589 vehicles being sold, a 41 per cent increase in comparison to 2013.

Thaco produces and assembles cars, trucks and buses in Viet Nam, with a localisation ratio that has risen from 16 per cent to 46 per cent.

According to the company, Thaco plans to sell 51,500 vehicles in 2015.

It currently manufactures and distributes models of Kia of South Korea, Mazda of Japan and France's Peugeot at the Truong Hai-Chu Lai Auto Complex in the central Quang Nam Province.

As scheduled, Thaco will begin producing diesel engines for trucks and buses that meet the Euro 2 and Euro 3 emission standards between 2017 and 2018. — VNS
