QUANG NAM (Biz Hub) — The Truong Hai Automobile Joint-Stock Company (Thaco) has reduced the price of 19 locally made trucks and Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 by VND4 million (US$178) to VND41 million ($1,822).

The Quang Nam-based car maker said the new prices, effective from February, of the trucks and cars would be one to two per cent less, in comparison with last year.

As planned, the Thaco Towner, Thaco Forland, Thaco Ollin models, Thaco Hyundai as well as Mazda models are included in the price cuts announced by the company.

According to Thaco, the largest price cut was of the Thaco Hyundai model, with the price falling VND41 million ($1,822) to touch the previous selling price.

Director of Thaco's communication department Nguyen Mot said the price reduction of various car and truck models was part of the company's planned strategy.

"Our company operates by following the value chain, which comprises production, transportation, distribution and the retail system. We also develop production by following the global value chain, such as manufacture of spare parts and accessories, assembly and supporting industries," he said, adding that Thaco could control production costs to provide products at reasonable prices.

He said the price cuts of trucks and tour cars had been included in the company's five per cent price cuts in 2016.

According to the Viet Nam Automobile Manufacturing Association (VAMA), Thaco sold more than 88,000 cars in 2015, a 90 per cent increase in comparison with 2014, comprising a 38.6 per cent market share of VAMA.

Thaco aims to increase its sale volume to 100,000 cars in 2016, comprising 40,000 trucks and 57,000 tour cars (Kia, Mazda, Peugeot).

Thaco, the largest automobile maker in Viet Nam, has produced and distributed vehicles for three car manufacturers, which are Kia from South Korea, Mazda from Japan and French giant Peugeot. — VNS
