HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Piaggio Viet Nam is recalling 10,000 Vespa Primavera scooters from across the country due to possible brake fluid leakages from the pipe connecting the handbrake to the wheel.
The Italian motorbike manufacturer reported that the disc brake systems in the 10,072 Vespa Primavera scooters were not correctly assembled during manufacture in accordance with the quality standards set by Piaggio Group.
These scooters, which were manufactured in its factory in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, experienced brake fluid leakages when running on bumpy roads.
However, no accident caused by the failure had been recorded, the company, a subsidiary of the Europe's largest scooter manufacturer, stated.
The vehicles recalled had been manufactured between September 30, 2013, and April 17, 2014, the company reported.
Primavera owners could bring their bikes to Piaggio dealers for repair and replacement work, which will take about 30–45 minutes and will be free of charge.
The VND68.8 million scooter, which was introduced in Viet Nam last November, draws its inspiration from the brand's iconic 1960s-era model, which was launched in Viet Nam one week after debuting in Milan.
The 2014 Primavera replaced the LX, one of the brand's best-selling models in Viet Nam.
A number of bike manufacturers in Viet Nam had also recalled faulty bikes in the recent years.
While Yamaha Viet Nam last year had recalled 83,000 Nozza scooters due to possible gasoline leakages, Honda Viet Nam in 2012 had recalled around 152,050 Wave RSX motorbikes due to rear light problems.— VNS
