HCM CITY (Biz Hub) – After an absence of more than 20 years, Peugeot, the famous French bicycle maker, has returned to Viet Nam to a rousing reception.
Velo Chic, the company's sole distributor in Viet Nam, has been mobbed by customers since the bikes went on sale at the end of last week.
"Around 150 bikes have been sold and if the same continues in the next two or four weeks, we will have no bikes to sell," Velo Chic CEO Dang Quang Manh said.
"Our outlets in Ha Noi and HCM City were also overcrowded and we found that Vietnamese still love Peugeot," said Manh.
"Vietnamese consumers mostly like traditional design."
Around 10 per cent of the customers were foreigners, he said.
Talking about the reason for Peugeot coming back to Viet Nam, he said Vietnamese are now tending to use bikes because they realise that cycling would solve many problems such as pollution and traffic jams and help them be healthy.
The company is offering around 60 models for adults, children, sports, and others as well as electric bikes.
