HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Motorbikes registered in the capital city will have additional prefix numbers on their plates as of June 1, according to a new circular issued by the Ministry of Public Securities.

The addition is to cope with the rapid increase in motorbikes in the city, which has more than 4.4 million units.

Meanwhile, HCM City's motorbikes that have prefix numbers 50 through 59 will get the additional number 41, and southern Dong Nai Province's motorbikes will get the additional number 39, while Ha Noi's motorbikes will get the additional number 40. The numbers on motorbike plates in other cities and provinces will remain unchanged.

A report from the Ha Noi Transport Department revealed that the country has more than 37 million motorbikes, of which 691,500 units were registered in the first quarter of this year. This figure has exceeded by 1 million the projections included in the national road transport development master plan through 2020. — VNS
