Ford Vietnam unveiled the new EcoSport on Thursday saying it is a key product marking its 20th year in the country.

To be sold from next month, the new vehicle will come with two engine options, EcoBoost 1.0L and Dragon 1.5L I3 Ti-VCT 122Ps.

The company said its emissions would be 15 per cent lower than the current model while fuel efficiency would be 20 per cent higher.

It will have a SYNC 3 system with an 8.0 screen for occupants to use their phones hands-free.

The company’s Hai Duong plant is one of six globally to make the new model.

It will come in eight colours, including silver, ruby, and blue.

In Viet Nam, EcoSport has been made since 2014, ushering in the new city SUV segment, and it has led the segment since the beginning.

EcoSport was first made in 2003 in Brazil.

The car is sold in 149 markets around the world.

Ford Vietnam has invested millions of dollars in its production chain including on robots and new machinery.

“The potential of the Vietnamese market is the energy pushing us to keep inventing new cars,” Nguyen Van Dung, general director of Ford Vietnam, said. — VNS
