HA NOI (Biz Hub) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has agreed to exempt owners of electric bicycles from payment of registration fees till June 30, 2015.

The owners need not pay the fee but must register their bicycles with the district's public transport police. From July 1, electric bicycle owners will have to either pay the fee or be fined under existing laws.

Ninh, who announced the exemption last November 5, has assigned the Ministries of Finance and Public Security to issue specific guidelines on the exemption.

Regarding electric bicycle management, a public security ministry representative admitted that it was difficult to register electric bicycles because these were often purchased without the required documents, such as tax payment certification. – VNS
