HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vietnamese over-the-top (OTT) service Zalo had 15 million subscribers and had handled 185 million messages per day by the end of July.
The service, which allows users to make calls and send messages over the Internet, was launched in August 2012 by VNG Corporation.
Deputy General Director of VNG Vuong Quang Khai said: "We are focusing on improving the quality of the product to meet the increasing demand from our customers. Our priority is to ensure that users can contact each other easily and reliably."
The company expects to launch Zalo's English version this year, aimed at foreign users. Besides Viet Nam, the Internet-based service is widely used by Vietnamese communities in other nations such as the United States, South Korea and Japan. Zalo is now available in 190 countries and territories in the world.
Established in September 2004, VNG started as an online games operator in Viet Nam. In March 2010, the company made a mark as a games developer with the launch of the Thuan Thien Kiem online game. VNG expanded its operation by providing services for young people, such as Zing MP3 for listening to music, Zing Me for social networking and the mini games platform Zing Play. — VNS
