HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam ranked ninth among 20 nations on cyber maturity in the Asia Pacific region this year.

The International Cyber Policy Centre under the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) released its second annual edition of the cyber maturity of 20 nations in the Asia Pacific region on October 26.

The US ranked first in the list, followed by Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

Australia dropped two places from last year to the fifth place, followed by New Zealand, Malaysia and China.

Brunei was also on the list of top ten countries having the best cyber security, following Viet Nam.

Viet Nam, Laos, Brunei, New Zealand and Fiji were added to the maturity metric this year to gain a more holistic picture of regional developments.

According to the International Cyber Policy Centre, Viet Nam has a modest government structure and legislative framework for addressing cyber issues.

The government is involved in international efforts to combat cybercrime, but its ad hoc indications of interest in military applications of cyber space suggest limited capabilities in that area.

There has been a natural growth in Viet Nam's digital economy, but the government's dialogue with local industries gives minimal attention to cyber security issues.

Viet Nam needs improvement to earn a higher score, the centre said. — VNS
