Viet Nam Competition Authority has asked Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group to provide complete and accurate information related to paid services providing TV channels.

The VCA, which is under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, has announced the requirement after it has received complaints from customers that Viettel had removed 22 familiar TV channels such as HBO, Cinemax and BBC from its service without giving a notice about the channel names to subscribers, reported vov.vn.

The military telecom firm has announced the change on its website and some mass media, without sending such a notice to its subscribers.

The authority said it would deal with this case according to regulations on protecting interests of consumers.

Viettel also pledged a refund to its customers if after experiencing alternative channels, the customers still want to stop the contract. In contrast, the customers must return the equipment that Viettel provided to them when they began use of those services.

According to the existing regulations, the customers have the right to terminate the services unilaterally after paying a fee for a period of using the service.

Earlier, Vietnam Television Cable Corporation (VTV Cab) received the same request after it removed 23 foreign channels from its service without giving a notice about the channel names to subscribers. – VNS
