HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vietnamobile, the country's fourth largest mobile operator, announced on October 14 that it has become an official partner of English football club Chelsea in Viet Nam.
The value of the contract was not revealed. During the three-year partnership, Vietnamobile and Chelsea will offer co-branded products such as limited edition SIM cards and promotions in Viet Nam. Moreover, Chelsea fans in the country will also be able to access exclusive digital content, including wallpapers, videos and ringtones.
On the club's official website, Chelsea Chief Executive Ron Gourlay said: "We are committed to bringing Chelsea football club as close as possible to our supporters around the world, and I am very pleased that this partnership with Vietnamobile will allow us to extend that reach in a country where we are already very popular."
Garmon Shaw, chief executive officer of Vietnamobile, expressed excitement over his company's partnership with the world-famous football team.
"Football is the favourite sport in Viet Nam, especially the Premier League and the European Champions League, in which Chelsea football club are known as a leading contender. We are excited to partner with Chelsea and commit to bring this football-loving country a series of interesting activities to mutually benefit both parties.'
Launched in April 2009, Vietnamobile is a joint venture between Ha Noi Telecom and the Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecommunications International. According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, the number of Vietnamobile subscribers reached about 10 million last December.
Established in 1905, Chelsea football club has won the Premier League title three times, the FA Cup seven times and the League Cup four times. After winning the UEFA Europa League in 2013, Chelsea became the first English club to win three European titles and become Champions League and Europa League winner at the same time.
In 2008, Vietnamese mobile service provider Beeline (now Gtel) signed a three-year partnership contract with another English football club, Manchester United. — VNS
