Vietnam Data Security Joint Stock Company (VNDS) officially introduced DataTrust, Việt Nam's first personal data protection compliance platform, on June 6.

Developed by experienced cybersecurity and data protection experts, DataTrust is the first digital platform in Việt Nam to manage privacy rights.

DataTrust offers comprehensive tools supporting full data subject rights, ensuring maximum compliance for businesses. Key features include status reports, compliance reports, administrative procedure reports and implementation of 11 data subject rights. DataTrust’s proactive compliance monitoring system helps businesses detect issues early, saving significant time and costs.

Đỗ Hưng Thuận, VNDS's Chief Technology Officer, said: “DataTrust addresses the current practical need in Việt Nam where no technological solution supports businesses in the complex and costly process of proving compliance.”

According to Thuận, DataTrust has helped clients reduce time, costs, and manpower by up to 95 per cent compared to traditional methods.

“We aim to provide a comprehensive technology solution that fully meets Việt Nam’s legal requirements for personal data protection,” he added.

With nearly 80 million Internet users, Việt Nam ranks 7th globally in user numbers. However, awareness of personal information protection online is limited, leading to frequent leaks, thefts and sales of personal data.

An IBM report shows that data breaches can cost nearly US$5 million. The consequences of data loss or theft severely impact both finances and the reputation of businesses.

The Ministry of Public Security has identified and handled numerous cases related to personal data leaks and sales online, warning of serious and unpredictable consequences.

To protect personal data, state agencies, businesses, and citizens must enhance awareness and skills in protecting personal information. The Ministry of Information and Communications is implementing several measures to strengthen personal data management and protection, including inspections, audits of personal data collecting and processing units and widespread public awareness campaigns about personal data protection. — VNS
