HA NOI (Biz Hub) — About 35 million Vietnamese, equivalent to one-third of its population, have accounts on Facebook, according to a recent report from the company.

"Southeast Asia is a dynamic mobile first region, and the fastest growing for Facebook. Connecting the more than 241 million people in Southeast Asia – and 35 million Vietnamese – on Facebook to friends and family, businesses and moments that matter to them, is at the core of everything we do," Kenneth Bishop, managing director, Southeast Asia, Facebook, said.

Facebook also reported a new milestone with three million active advertisers on the social network, a significant growth of 50 per cent in the one-year period from February last year to February this year.

A large part of that growth is being driven by advertisers in Southeast Asia (SEA) who are moving beyond traditional advertising channels to reach the region's mobile first consumers, Facebook said in the report.

"Small businesses are at the heart of local economies in Southeast Asia and we are committed to helping local businesses grow," Huynh Kim Tuoc, team lead of Emerging Markets, SEA, Facebook, said.

"More than there million businesses are active advertisers with Facebook globally, and SEA is the fastest growing region as more local businesses turn to Facebook Pages for their mobile business solutions. With more than 73 per cent of people in Viet Nam connected to a small and medium businesses (SMB) page, we know people are actively connecting with the SMBs that matter to them," he added.

For example, the baby clothes retailer Babi.vn created a strong community for mothers in Việt Nam on its Facebook Page, and its revenue tripled in one year, according to the report.

Also, California Fitness and Yoga Center, a chain of fitness centres that has successfully gained ground in the Vietnamese market by reaching nine million people in just five months, with an increase of nearly 500,000 fans in a year, has resulted in a 10 per cent increase in membership sales with the help of Facebook. — VNS
