HCM CITY – The Ministry of Transport has asked the Government to permit pilot implementation of a project to apply information technology in the management of contract-based passenger transportation (Grabcar) developed by GrabTaxi Vietnam.

The GrabCar pilot project will initially be carried out in Ha Noi, HCM City, Da Nang, Quang Ninh and Khanh Hoa provinces.

Under the project, GrabTaxi will co-operate with accredited contract-based commercial passenger transportation services, and provide an updated list of these service providers to State management agencies on a regular basis.

The aim is to modernise transportation in the country while ensuring passenger convenience and safety.

The project is expected to save time, costs, and operational expenses for transportation service providers. It will also support effective State management of "e-hailing services".

Nguyen Tuan Anh, general manager of GrabTaxi Vietnam, said the project was expected to help businesses in the conventional transportation sector apply information technology to access expanded revenue streams. — VNS
