The 3G lump-sum price, including MIU of MobiFone, MiMax of Viettel and MAX of VinaPhone, will be adjust to VND70,000 per month (US$3.33) compared with the present price of VND50,000 ($2.38).

Users are provided 600MB with high-speed download capacity. Overcoming the number, the internet access speed will be lowered to average level.

The packaged 3G price for students at telecom companies will also be raised to VND50,000 from VND30,000 ($1.42).

VinaPhone deputy director Ho Duc Thang said: "The adjustment of the 3G fee is based on a regulation on price management of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), helping VinaPhone increase the investment efficiency in 3G and upgrade infrastructure to serve users better in the future."

Viettel and MobiFone shared the same thought on their official websites, saying that it was adjusted to cover costs, according to the MIC's regulation.

MIC approved a proposal from the three telecom providers, allowing them to raise the price of the 3G fee by 20 per cent. However, the price has increased 40 per cent.

This is the second time the 3G fee has been raised this year, after a 30 per cent increase in April. — VNS
