Taiwanese Pegatron Corp, a major manufacturing partner of Apple, Microsoft and Sony, will add US$101 million to its investment in Viet Nam, reported Reuters.

The investment in Pegatron’s Viet Nam subsidiary would be for the production and sales of computers and peripheral equipment, communication equipment and electronic components, said the Taiwan Economy Ministry’s investment commission.

The Taiwanese company has given no further details and did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Reuters.

Previously, in September 2020, Pegatron was looking to invest $1 billion in three phases in production facilities in areas like computing, communications and consumer electronics in the country.

The company is best known as a major supplier to Apple, along with Taiwan's Foxconn and Wistron Corp. Pegatron is one of the three largest iPhone manufacturers in China and India.

In its 2020 annual report, Pegatron also mentioned continuing to expand its production facilities to Viet Nam and India to meet drastic changes in the supply chain. — VNS
