Students to participate in programming contest

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Nearly 500 mathematical whizzkids from 53 universities and colleges nationwide will take part in the national round of the Association for Computing Machinery/International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM/ICPC) on October 26.

FPT University will provide an online platform for the final of the online national contest for the second time, after its successful tenure last year, with the competition being held in 11 universities across the country.

Each team, comprising of three members, will be required to solve 10 or 11 mathematical problems on computers in a five hour time limit.

The results will be publicised on the official website www.OLP.vn from October 29.

Viet Nam Computer Association general secretary Nguyen Long, head of the organising board, said top teams would participate in the Asian round of the contest from November 26-29 in Da Nang City.

At the moment, there are 11 international teams from South Korea, Indonesia, China and its territories of Taipei and Hong Kong, registered to compete in Da Nang city.

The winning team from the Asian round will take part in the global contest in Ekaterinburg in Russia.

Last year, the MOG team from FPT University topped the national round by solving five mathematical problems in four hours, 23 minutes.

In the Asian round, GMT team from Hong Kong came out on top of the championship staged in Ha Noi, followed by the CTU Optimists team from Can Tho University, plus two other teams from China and Hong Kong. — VNS
