Nielsen: Vietnamese customers trust friends over ads

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — When asked which form of advertising they trusted most, 81 per cent of Vietnamese customers said product recommendations from people they knew carried the most weight, according to a recent survey carried out by global information and measurement company Nielsen.

Branded websites came in second with 75 per cent and consumer opinions posted online took third place with 64 per cent.

The survey also showed that ads on TV, in magazines and newspapers had become the most reliable form of paid advertising, as these forms were selected by over half the participants.

When it came to online advertising, 48 per cent relied on ads from emails they signed up for, 44 per cent chose ads from search engine results and 41 per cent trusted video ads. Ads on social networks were relied on by 38 per cent and 34 per cent said that they believed in online banner ads.

Nielsen said that trust in online advertising was increasing as this form of advertising became more popular and trustworthy.

Ads on mobile devices and text ads on mobile phones were the least reliable form, chosen by only 30 per cent and 21 per cent of survey participants. — VNS
