Mobile World to launch IT company

Mobile phone retailer Mobile World Group (MWG) will start an Information Technology (IT) company in the second quarter of this year to provide services and solutions for its retail chains.

MWG owns many retail chains, including thegioididong.com, Dien may XANH, Bach hoa XANH, vuivui.com, and is now expanding to overseas markets.

“IT plays a very important role in running the group’s retail chains. So the establishment of a technology company will help these retail chains operate more efficiently,” MWG’s representative told ICTnews.

By opening an IT company, the group is actually upgrading its IT department into a separate entity to enhance the role of technology, which will contribute significantly to its growth. The new company will see an initial investment cost of VND135 billion (US$6 million).

The company, which will be located in the high-tech zone of Tan Phu Ward in District 9, HCM City, will provide IT services and solutions such as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, websites and system security.

MWG is drawing up a detailed plan and has initiated legal procedures to form the company.

By the end of February, MWG had 1,327 supermarkets, of which thegioididong.com owned 970, Dien may XANH had 303 and the rest belonged to Bach hoa XANH.

Last month, the group opened its first store in Cambodia called BigPhone.com.

Between now and end of June, MWG plans to launch 10 to 15 stores in neighbouring countries, according to the company’s website.
