HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Laird, a global technology company of the United Kingdom, opened a new manufacturing plant in Que Vo Industrial Zone of Bac Ninh Province on June 11.
This is the first plant in Viet Nam to better serve manufacturers of smart phones, portable electronics and other devices, said Laird Chief Executive Officer David Lockwood.
Laird's state-of-the-art facility in Bac Ninh is one of more than 50 Laird facilities in Asia, Europe and the United States.
"Viet Nam has grown to become a leading manufacturing centre for many global technology companies, and we are very glad to be among them," Lockwood told the press. "This plant will further strengthen our design and manufacturing capabilities worldwide."
Lockwood added that the facility "underpins Laird's growth prospects for 2014 and beyond."
The facility will predominantly manufacture precision metals and electronic materials for Laird's Performance Materials Division, which designs and supplies electromagnetic interference shielding, thermal management solutions and signal integrity products for the smart phone, transportation, IT/telecoms, medical and consumer industries across the world.
The Bac Ninh plant, Lockwood noted, will complement Laird's new design centre and its newly acquired Model Solution prototype business, both in Seoul, South Korea and other Laird facilities in China and Malaysia.
Laird's growth will also be delivered through its Wireless Systems Division, which designs and supplies a broad range of products, systems and software solutions that enable wireless communications such as "smart" antenna solutions, automotive telematics, M2M, V2V and V2X infrastructure antennas, embedded wireless and automation and control solutions.
Laird operates 14 other facilities throughout Asia, where it conducts research and development, manufacturing, prototyping and engineering, and provides support to customers in the region. — VNS
