HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Online security firm Kaspersky Lab has launched a free Facebook application called Friend or Foe to help users assess the potential threat levels caused by interaction with friends on the social network.

It allows users to assess how "valuable" their friends are, and even shows what others think of them.

The app will reveal which of those hundreds of followers are genuine fans and who reports and comments most of all in a user's circle of friends besides highlighting threats to social network users and how to keep personal information secure.

Evgeny Chereshnev, head of global mobile business development at Kaspersky, said: "The largest social network in the world is bound to attract the attention of cybercriminals.

"More often than not, they are on the hunt for personal data and login credentials which they can then use to access such things as your mobile banking account."

Not surprisingly, Facebook is the most popular target for phishers, with 79.5 per cent of all social media phishing attacks in the first quarter of this year targeted it. — VNS
