HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — IBM Viet Nam launched a new cloud computing service called Softlayer on June 18.

Tan Jee Toon, the company's general director, said the launch of Softlayer is part of IBM's plan to provide cloud services in new markets and to new customers of all sizes.

The company said that with the new service customers can deploy cloud computing within a few minutes instead of months unlike the traditional system.

It would also help users control infrastructure and provide them with flexibility of payment to control costs effectively, it said.

It permits users to build clouds on a server owned by an enterprise or organisation to ensure privacy, security, confidentiality, and computing capacity, it added.

IBM bought Softlayer in 2013. It remains the largest cloud computing service with 30,000 customers in 140 countries and territories.

Every year the company invests more than US$6 billion in developing cloud computing, and has, since 2007, bought 17 cloud computing companies. — VNS
