The Thua Thien-Hue Centre for Information Technology (HueCIT) was named a member of the Quang Trung Software City (QTSC) chain at a ceremony held in HCM City on Saturday as part of the 2019 HCM City Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Business Day.

Le Vinh Chien, director of HueCIT, which was established in 2000, said the centre comprises a 2,378sq.m building with full utilities that are convenient for business matching and cooperation activities among IT firms.

“HueCIT has 14 IT enterprises operating here. Over 19 years of establishment and development, HueCIT has gradually asserted its role in IT human resources training, developing software products and providing IT services to State agencies and society. "

It is expected that by 2022 HueCIT will expand its scale and attract 30 small and medium-sized enterprises of about 500 employees to affirm its firm foothold in the central and Central Highlands regions, Chien said.

By 2025, it is expected to have a strong brand in the IT field in domestic and foreign markets, and have more than 100 enterprises with more than 1,000 employees, he added.

Lam Nguyen Hai Long, permanent member of the QTSC Chain Management Council and QTSC director, said: “In addition to HueCIT in the coming years, the chain will promote the admission of many new members such as Mekong Innovation Technology Park (Mekong ITP) in Tien Giang and a few others in Ben Tre and Can Tho that the QTSC Chain Management Council is surveying, evaluating and consulting in order to enable them to become a member of the QTSC chain.

“By then, the QTSC chain will become a strong brand, capable of attracting domestic and foreign investment and competing with other software park chains in Asia.”

Also on Saturday, QTSC signed a cooperation agreement with International University - Vietnam National University of HCM City to develop a guiding document for deploying and managing centralised IT parks.

In 2016, the Prime Minister issued Decision No 333 on piloting the establishment of the QTSC chain with two original members: QTSC and the HCM City-based National University’s IT Park (ITP). Since each member of the chain has its own strengths, they can complement each other for mutual development.

QTSC’s orientation is boosting outsourcing and R&D activities, while VNU - ITP aims to develop innovative start-ups, and HueCIT’s target is to develop IT applications in the tourism – culture sector.

In 2020, the Mekong ITP is expected to become the fourth member of the chain, with its orientation of developing IT applications in the agricultural sector and business process outsourcing (BPO) services. — VNS
