Han Myoung-sup becomes Samsung Vietnam general director

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Han Myoung-sup, executive vice president of Samsung Electronics, has been appointed Samsung Vietnam's general director.

According to Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper, he is the senior-most official of the South Korean giant Samsung Corporation assigned to lead Samsung Vietnam. Han will be in charge of external relationships, public relations and satellite enterprises of all projects carried out by Samsung Electronics in Viet Nam. They include its two plants in the northern Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces and the Samsung CE Complex in HCM City.

Han will replace Shim Won Hwan, who will return to South Korea to take over new responsibilities.

Born in 1957, Han has a bachelor's degree in electronics and a master's degree in business management. He has been working for Samsung since 1984, and has held different positions at the corporation.

During an official meeting with Planning and Investment Minister Bui Quang Vinh on January 16 in Ha Noi, Han said that Samsung Corporation will stick to their commitment of investing further in Viet Nam.

Minister Vinh appreciated the contributions of the South Korean group towards the socio-economic growth in the country. "Samsung always fulfills its commitments in Viet Nam. The Vietnamese government welcomes its investment projects and also commits to support its success in Viet Nam," he said.

On the occasion, the minister awarded a certificate of merit to Shim Won Hwan for his efforts in enhancing Samsung's investment in Viet Nam, and his contribution towards creating good working and living environments for thousands of Vietnamese workers.

Samsung Corporation has invested more than US$11.2 billion in Viet Nam so far, of which $9.4 billion is by Samsung Electronics. — VNS
