Gold encrusted iPhone 5S sold in Viet Nam

HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The DVS Digital mobile phone store introduced gold encrusted iPhone 5S mobile phones to Hanoian users last week.

Only 88 such phones have been sold worldwide.

The iPhone is completely made by hand. It takes 120 hours to make and customers must place orders seven to 10 days in advance. The 16GB model costs VND88 million (nearly US$4,200) and comes with a lifetime warranty.

The iPhone 5S has not been officially released in Viet Nam, so the mobile phones on sale now are all imported. The Ha Noi price ranges from VND16.95 million ($807) to VND23.5 million ($1,119).

On Wednesday, Hoang Ha Mobile at 194 Le Duan Street sold one iPhone 5S with a grey cover for VND16.95 million ($807) while Huyen Mobile at 31D Lang Ha priced theirs at VND17.5 million ($833).

A silver cover costs VND17.99 million ($856) and VND18.8 million ($895) at the two stores, respectively. Huyen Mobile sells the gold-covered phone for VND23.5 million while Hoang Gia Mobile store at 2 Ho Tung Mau Street set a price of VND22.99 million ($1,094).

The 32GB costs from VND18.5 million ($880) to VND24.5 million ($1166), depending on the colour of its cover.

CellphoneS retail stores offer the 64GB model with a gold cover for VND30 million ($1428).

The iPhone 5S was officially released in the US on September 20. It runs the new iOS7 operating system with a quad-core processor and boasts a fingerprint reader and improved camera which can record high-quality slow motion videos. The US retail price is $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model. — VNS
