HCM CITY (Biz Hub)— The HCM City Department of Information and Communications will inspect all telecom companies operating in the city to check their management of prepaid mobile phone subscribers.
According to the department, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the management of prepaid mobile communications still has many problems.
Up to 90 percent of Viet Nam's mobile phone customers are prepaid users. Until recently, many phone users went to shops and bought new numbers without bothering to register with the authorities.
Meanwhile, phone shops frequently recycle the personal information of one person to register multiple phone numbers.
Pham Hong Hai, director of MIC's Telecommunications Authority, said the active involvement of mobile operators plays an important role in management of prepaid mobile subscribers and prepaid SIMs.
"The Telecoms Authority suggests mobile carriers strictly adhere to regulations on managing prepaid subscribers, especially their sale systems", Hai said.
Meanwhile, the reduction of newly activated SIMs signals that the growth of prepaid mobile subscribers has become more stable with the decrease of virtual subscribers. — VNS
