HA NOI — In order to optimally exploit digital technology to promote tourism, more efforts from businesses are needed, said Ha Van Sieu, deputy head of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism.

The tourism agency, along with the Viet Nam Tourism Association, co-organised a seminar on boosting e-marketing in tourism promotion and e-commerce in tourism trading in Ha Noi on Thursday.

Emphasising the importance of these activities, Sieu said the efficiency of digital technology in the tourism sector has become evident in recent years.

The industry has seen this as an important development strategy in the field of tourism.

Most recently, the tourism industry produced a video clip introducing Vietnamese tourism, implemented internet marketing and introduced an online travel mart, Tripi.

According to Clever Ads Director Nguyen Khanh Trinh, in Viet Nam, the majority of tourism businesses have promoted their activities through digital technology. However, they have only focused on the domestic market, he said.

The videos introducing Viet Nam were mostly made by foreign companies, and tourism promotion activities were not as diverse as other countries in the region, he added. Trinh showed an illustration of Thailand as the Tourism Authority of Thailand used online communication channels to reach travellers worldwide for their tourism events.

Dang Phan Son, marketing director of Tripi, said that a tourism e-commerce system would help consumers connect with providers to support and boost consumer confidence and the prestige of tourism products and services.

At the conference, some comments also touched on issues of diversifying website platforms because users might leave the website site if they do not advertise eco-friendly options.

In addition, many participants also emphasised the necessity of using Facebook to promote tourism activities in Viet Nam. — VNS
