HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Department of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Information and Communications will do research and publish figures on Internet users in Viet Nam in 2015.
Last November 26, the department submitted a report to the ministry on the draft plan to do research and collect information on the number of Internet users in Viet Nam.
The agency proposed a survey of households with members aged six to 74 years or 83 per cent of the country's population.
The ministry also assigned its Department of Information Technology to do research on and survey human resources in the Vietnamese electronics industry, as well as assess the capabilities of training centres in the field. The department will begin and complete this assignment next year.
From 2015 to 2020, the department will be in charge of helping students in the electronics industry improve their knowledge and professional abilities.
During the period, the department will be responsible for building mechanisms to encourage government agencies and organisations to use electronic products produced in Viet Nam and encourage support enterprises to construct production processes that ensure products meet international standards.
The department is also assigned to do research on and assess market demands and market potentials of various products in Viet Nam from 2015 to 2017.
Its five duties are included in a plan to develop Viet Nam's electronics industry as part of the country's industrialisation strategy, which in turn forms part of the Viet Nam-Japan co-operation agreement towards 2020 with a vision to 2030.
The bilateral agreement was signed during the working visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Japan in 2013. Under this agreement, Japan has committed to supporting Viet Nam to develop six prioritised industries.
The Prime Minister approved the industrialisation strategy on July 1, 2013, and approved action plans to develop the electronics industry last August 1.
Viet Nam aims to develop the industry with advanced technology and high labour productivity by 2020 to enable it to compete in regional and global markets, thereby contributing to national industrialisation and modernisation.
By 2030, Viet Nam will become a major producer of electronics equipment using new and environment-friendly technologies. — VNS
