HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vietnamese mobile network Viettel, on August 8, in co-operation with US-based Qualcomm, opened its 3G experience zone at six stores in Ha Noi, Da Nang, HCM City and Can Tho.
Customers can experience 3G services for free and take part in games from now until December 8. At its store in Can Tho, users also can use high-speed 3G, with the maximum speed of 42Mbps to download data.
Ngo Manh Hung, Deputy General Director of Viettel Telecom, said that it had 26,000 base transceiver stations so far, and the number of its 3G subscribers increased by 9 million in the first seven months of 2014.
Viettel now provides customers the fastest speed to download data at 21Mbps and is completing its proof test on improving the speed to 42Mbps at central areas in 13 cities and provinces in south-western part of Viet Nam. According to its plan, Viettel will upgrade the speed in the remaining provinces at the beginning of 2015.
Thieu Phuong Nam, General Director of Qualcomm in Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia, expressed his views on the development of 3G in Viet Nam after four years of it being in use.
He said that the company had cooperated with Viettel to bring 3G to more Vietnamese. It will provide equipment for hardware manufacturers to boost the expansion of 3G products in the community, he added. — VNS
