HA NOI (Biz Hub) — There are currently more than 1,300 computers in Viet Nam infected with the CTB Locker trojan-ransom and the number is rising.

Bkav Corporation recently issued warnings about the ransomware and released software to protect computers against it.

The trojan is inserted in attached zip files sent to users' emails. After the users open these emails, their computers will be controlled by the hackers and the data will be encrypted. At the same time, a message will appear on the computer screens, asking the victims to pay ransom money or their data will be lost.

Bkav has updated its anti-virus software to scan computers and kill the trojan.

According to Bkav, users cannot retrieve the encrypted data because the hackers use public key cryptography. Private keys are stored only on the servers of hackers.

CTB Locker, a new variant of CryptoLocker malware, attacked about 250,000 computers all over the world in mid-December 2013.

Bkav has updated solutions against the ransomware in its latest version. Users can download its latest anti-virus software from www.bkav.com.vn/download/BkavRS.exe. The software will scan computers and kill the trojan. — VNS
