HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Cloud computing is the key to innovation and needs to be embraced to improve a company's growth, efficiency and innovation, Vietnamese business executives taking part in a survey have said.

Global virtualisation and cloud infrastructure firm VMware's survey, Forum Viet Nam Business, revealed on Wednesday that of 64 business and IT managers and decision makers, 87 per cent expressed confidence in cloud's role in innovation and 52 per cent favoured a hybrid cloud approach to their IT infrastructure.

Thirty seven per cent found virtualised environments to be very secure.

The survey found that Vietnamese companies place great importance on ensuring data security, particularly when enabling business mobility.

Businesses now expect security to be an integrated part of the products and services IT vendors provide, to avoid incremental expenses.

Bringing new products and services to market, resources optimisation and driving collaboration within their ecosystem are the top three business imperatives in Viet Nam.

Businesses want technologies that are scalable, flexible and simple to manage.

Around 84 per cent attached great importance to enabling business mobility especially since the country is home to over 52 million mobile subscribers.

Brian Higgins, general manager of the company's General Business and Partners, ASEAN, said: "Viet Nam's gross domestic product is expected to grow 11 per cent as a result of the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement.

"Along high mobile penetration rates, the opening up of Viet Nam's economy created opportunities for businesses in Viet Nam to redefine the way they work, live and grow.

"The shift to digital business models is transforming industries everywhere. This requires business of all sizes to innovate faster, driving positive uptake in hybrid cloud and business mobility technologies in today's mobile-cloud era."

Asked about the barriers to adopting technologies, the respondents listed costs, complexities of technology and management, orchestration, and provisioning of software tools.

Forum Viet Nam Business was conducted from September to November this to study business imperatives and IT priorities for 2016 and the role of technology and innovation in driving businesses. — VNS
