DA NANG (Biz Hub) — As a crucial step towards building a smart city, the central city's information and communications department has launched the Da Nang's e-Government system after seven years of preparation and construction.

The system includes the Information Technology (IT) and communications infrastructure; IT applications, policy and mechanism on IT and communication and IT manpower resources, department Director Pham Kim Son announced at a press conference on the system inauguration on July 21.

"This is the city's first synchronic and updated IT technology e-Government system. It will help improve transparency and efficiency among State agencies as well as prevent bureaucratic procedural delays," Son said.

"The launch of the e-Government system will provide a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), wireless internet, data centre and a centre for human training and research on IT applications," he said.

"The system also helps to connect all the city agencies and grassroots administration, online public services, e-Government frames and an overall e-Government architecture."

The department also introduced the centre for free public service with 2,100 procedures for locals and businesses and a public transaction and consultancy centre with 120 contact agents.

The city has also offered wireless internet (wifi) free services, with a maximum of 20,000 connections at a time for locals and tourists at major centres and streets in the city, including living quarters, schools and beaches. These services will also be available at tourist sites, hospitals and shopping malls apart from bus and railway stations, airport and entertainment centres.

Tran Van Dung, Deputy Director of the city's managing board for IT and communications development, said the central city had provided 1,196 on-line administration procedures including one-stop shops, residential management, public transport and water supervision.

The city has also introduced a paperless administration office in Lien Chieu district to ease the manual procedures for the locals. — VNS
