HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Viet Nam's Bkav Internet Security Corporation on April 16 launched an Internet-based over-the-top (OTT) application which allows users to make free phone calls and messages.

The app, called Btalk, will integrate normal calls and free calls along with popular chat services such as Facebook Chat, Yahoo Messenger and Google's Gtalk, on the same interface. Equipped with a smart keyboard called MagicPad, Btalk will help users find contacts by entering the initial one to three letters of the names.

Similar to other OTT apps, Btalk provides users various services such as voice messages, photo sharing, group chat, video calls, group calls and location sharing.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Nguyen Tu Hoang, vice director of Bkav software section, said that the OTT market has developed rapidly but the quality has not met the users' demands. "It is time for the OTT apps to change their quality and that's why we have developed Btalk," he said. "We aim to replace the Viber app in Viet Nam and to enter the international market."

According to Hoang, Btalk is a part of a large project and the company is determined to invest for the long-term, without thinking of immediate profits. He refused to reveal the amount of investment for Btalk and its project.

From April 16, users can download Btalk from Google Play to Android smartphones for free. The iOS and Windows versions will be available in the third quarter of this year. — VNS
