Construction of a wind and solar power project, funded by Japan, began in Quy Nhon city in the central province of Binh Dinh on Tuesday.

Investment for the 100MW project has been made by Fujiwara Binh Dinh Co. Ltd., which said it was committed to complete the project on time and contribute to the local economy.

With a total investment of US$63.69 million, the construction will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, a 50MW solar plant will be built on over 60ha of land on the southern side of the Phuong Mai Mountain in the Nhon Hoi economic zone. It is expected to become operational in February 2019.

The second phase will see a 50MW wind power plant constructed on the side of the Nui Ba Mountain in Phu Cat District. With an area of 200-250ha, the facility is expected to start operations in 2020.

Phan Cao Thang, deputy chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the project would contribute to promoting the national programme on clean energy development, enhance the image of the Nhon Hoi economic zone and Binh Dinh Province, and create more jobs.

Binh Dinh is boosting investment in clean and renewable energy. This project is the third in renewable energy and the first in solar power in the locality. — VNS
